R N Fear & Sons has a history within the stonemasonry trade going back to 1867 when originally established by J. Fear. Currently we are the fourth generation to continue with this tradition.
We have an excellent reputation within our field for delivering quality and reliability; and have worked alongside many reputable organisations from The National Trust to English Heritage within the conservation and restoration fields.
We are converse in all aspects of stonework including banker work, carvings etc... and the subsequent fixing of; utilising the various fixing methods necessary dependent upon the stonework to be replaced. We have extensive knowledge of the various types of walling from coursed to dry stone walling. Any area within the stonemasonry field can be undertaken.
With regards to listed buildings and such related structures, we always adopt a sympathetic approach and employ all the necessary conservation / restoration techniques in order to maintain the historical integrity of the above; such techniques as lime mortar repairs (and subsequent wire cages), dowelling of damaged stonework , indents, the sourcing of various aggregates, sands, limes in order to match any existing mortars(and subsequent finishing techniques of re-pointed areas) are always employed.
We are experienced with new builds and are happy to facilitate if required, we have also carried out various repairs and rebuilds to listed brickwork buildings, employing the same techniques and approaches as we would adopt to any stone building.
Although we have our foundations within stonework, we have at our disposal
other quality trades to assist in any projects that maybe forthcoming, and as a
result we could provide a complete package on the basis of us being principal
contractor. These trades include roofing specialists, carpenters,
lead workers, lime render specialists, specialist stone/brick cleaners etc..
